Wednesday Wisdom: It’s Never Too Late

“I think it’s never too late to start anything, except maybe being a ballerina.”
– Wendy Leiberman

It’s Never Too Late

Let me just start with this: I am 65 years old, and I just signed up for a Spanish bootcamp. Why?

Because it’s never too late. Never too late to learn. To stretch. To laugh at yourself (a lot). And to say yes to something your soul has been nudging you toward for years.

I’ve spent most of my life thinking I “should” speak Spanish. I’ve traveled through Latin America, led immersion journeys into the Amazon, worked alongside extraordinary Spanish-speaking partners at Pachamama Alliance—and still, I defaulted to smiling, nodding, and praying someone nearby could translate. I told myself things like, “My brain doesn’t do languages,” or “It’s too late to start now.” Sound familiar?

But something shifted. I recently had a conversation with our dear friend and collaborator Chip Conley, the brilliant founder of Modern Elder Academy. He doesn’t talk about a midlife crisis—he talks about a midlife chrysalis. It is a time of rebirth — a time to rewire, reinvent, and reimagine what’s possible.

So, I’m choosing the chrysalis. I’m choosing growth over resignation. I’m choosing the wild joy (and slight terror) of beginner’s mind.

And you know what? It feels amazing.

I’ve got Spanish sticky notes all over my kitchen. I’m practicing in the car. I’m embarrassing myself daily, and I’m also having a blast. Because this isn’t about being perfect—it’s about being alive.

So here’s my wisdom this Wednesday:
It’s never too late to do the thing you’ve been putting off.
It’s never too late to become a student again.
It’s never too late to surprise yourself.

Whether it’s a language, a dance class, a new business idea, or calling someone you’ve been meaning to reconcile with—whatever’s whispering to you from the wings of your life… bring it center stage.

The world doesn’t need your perfection.
It needs your passion.
Your playfulness.
Your willingness to keep evolving.

And I don’t know about you, but I plan to keep growing—en Español y más allá.

With love (and flashcards),

Sara

Journaling & Meditation

  • What have I quietly longed to do for years but told myself it was too late for?
  • If age and/or fear weren’t in the way, what would I take on today?
  • What part of me still feels curious and full of possibility?
  • What might I do even better now than earlier in life?
