Last week Lynne and I had the privilege of sharing a powerful, exhilarating, and uplifting webinar with our friend, Radha Agrawal. Radha is the founder of DAYBREAKER, author of Belong: Find Your People, Create Community, and Live a More Connected Life, a global community builder, and a force of nature. Our conversation was full of jewels of wisdom and insights that resonated deeply, and I wanted to share them here – for those of you who didn’t participate as well as for those who did. Radha is passionate and dedicated to eradicating loneliness, a leading cause of mental health issues, depression, anxiety, and substance abuse. An antidote to the loneliness epidemic is building community, which takes place at DAYBREAKER, an early morning, sober, dance party where hundreds of people gather all over the world and dance with wild abandon. It is a blast! When you dance and play, Radha told us, you can actually train your brain to release four neurochemicals related to happiness. You can unlock your Dopamine, your Oxytocin, your Serotonin, and your Endorphins, the first letters of which spell D.O.S.E. So, you can DOSE yourself on your own natural high. DOSE is an acronym that her community lives by. Everything Radha and her team generates is created from the intersection of “depth and play.” Most of us tend to think of play as a frivolous thing, but there is such deep, powerful transformation in the world to play. Marrying play and depth is the ultimate secret to a happy, joyful life filled with meaning. We play to make ourselves happy, we seek depth to know more of ourselves and life. When we bring these two elements together, there is a richness and fullness that neither provides it on its own. DAYBREAKER is a joyous experience of self-expression that is also a deep encounter with yourself and others. There are moments of introspection as you dance alone as well as moments that ignite courageous connection as you dance with others. In the webinar Radha asked people to share what brings them the most joy in life and then to think of how to bring more depth to those experiences: As you are walking in Nature, can you be skipping, or whistling, or singing your favorite song? Or when you are in deep contemplation or serious action, how can you add more fun? Depth and play are essential to the programs we lead and to the retreats we facilitate at the Soul of Money Institute. If you are interested in taking a deep dive into expanding your power, effectiveness and impact in the world, join the Sophia Circle – a 6-month program beginning October 4th. See the information below. Lynne and I also want to invite you to a very special event happening on October 5th called the Climate Convergence 2023. It’s a daylong event put on by the Pachamama Alliance that will highlight the dynamic work of the climate justice movement. This is an all-hands-on-deck time for action on the climate crisis, so we hope you will join in for whatever time you can next Thursday. See all the info below. |
